ESRI's GIS Portal Toolkit is a technology and services solution for implementing local, regional, national, and global spatial data infrastructure (SDI) portals. GIS portals organize content and services such as directories, search tools, community information, support resources, data, and applications. They provide capabilities to query metadata records for relevant data and services and link directly to the online sites that host content services. The content can be visualized as maps and used in geographic queries and analyses.

ESRI's GIS Portal Toolkit provides all the tools and templates to create a GIS portal. Based on ESRI's ArcIMS and ArcSDE server technology, this standards-based solution offered through ESRI's Professional Services is a cost-effective way to get a functional site up and running quickly.

Product Overview

Toolkit for Spatial Data Infrastructure Portals

The GIS Portal Toolkit was developed by ESRI to support implementation of one-stop Web sites for the discovery, transmission, and use of geographic data and mapping services maintained anywhere on the Internet. Each GIS portal—whether implemented for a specific geographic area, topic of interest, or broader objective—allows its users to

  • Search, obtain, and use geographic data and mapping services cataloged by the portal.
  • Register to share their own geographic data and mapping services with others using the portal.

A GIS portal is a single point of access to spatial information, regardless of the location, format, or structure of the data source. A successful portal connects desktop users with disparate data holdings and applications.
